The first written records for the settlement (then called Urumlar) date back to 15th century. Later on the village became known as "Garci" and the name "Gradec" it received in 1934. The village had its greatest development in the year of 1956 when its population reached 4000 inhabitants. The first church in the village "St. Prorok Ilia" was built in 1854.
